Usually for General Conference we listen the first day on the radio, make muffins, have tons of fun activities planned, and have prepared by going to the temple and taking pictures. Then for day two we go up to my in-laws and watch the last two sessions there. This time, we just watched at my parent's house. Technically I printed out a couple of packets for the kids to color. There were hidden pictures and bingo and stuff like that. The page the kids liked the best was a tally page of certain words one would expect to come up during conference, like Jesus Christ, Atonement, Heavenly Father, Faith, Repentance, Joseph Smith, Pioneers, etc. Joshua and Michael worked on that the most. But no muffins, no temple trip, no elaborate craft ideas. Vacation is vacation. I do enjoy doing those things, but when they get to be stressful and something that I have to hurry and throw together last minute and stress over because I was too busy and didn't have time to do it earlier, than they aren't fun anymore and the tradition is becoming a burden and not something enriching our lives. So we dumped the tradition this time.
But we still had a great time. We watched the 1st Saturday session with my mom. Bob was out escorting 90 youth from a mainland high school doing service projects on the trails on the island. Then between sessions I took the kids to Whatmough Bay to climb on the rocks. During the afternoon session my sister, her husband, and their four little boys (one just 5 weeks old!) came over from their home about 4 hours away. The kids didn't take too long to get acquainted. Although Abby wasn't too thrilled about MORE boys. We went that afternoon with just the boys to Agate Beach. Then Sunday it was more conference. Agate Beach again between sessions. And Fisherman's Bay Spit Preserve in the evening, which is a topic for another post. Here are just a few photos of what we looked like watching Conference. (The moments of all of us together in one room were rare since the kids had a hard time sitting still for very long.)

See if you can find Joshua's head that mysteriously disappeared from his body. |
