Six months ago I had a lot of ideas for GC activities. I couldn't come up with much this time around. So Friday night I was brainstorming as I went to bed. Here is what I came up with. Our basic theme was "The Holy Scriptures."
First, we made "scriptures" to represent the true scriptures, brass plates for the Old Testament (I took this idea from the fact that Nephi lived in Old Testament times and the scriptures he read from were brass plates), a scroll for the New Testament, gold plates for the Book of Mormon, and a book for the Doctrine and Covenants. The kids had their scripture story books to get ideas for which stories they wanted represented in their "scriptures." Joshua said this was hard to do - it was a lot of coloring - but he LOVES them and he carried them around with him the full two days of conference. Abigail mostly drew the cross on every book of scripture. Technically she is 100% accurate - every prophet has prophesied of Christ and every book of scripture teaches us of him.
For the afternoon session we got out a bunch of toys (the kids were allowed to use any toys they wanted) and used them to build scenes from scripture stories. This activity was more age appropriate for Joshua and older kids - not so much for Abigail and Lukas, but I figured eventually they would all break down and just play with their toys anyway. (By the end of this session, well, in time for Elder Bednar's talk, Derek and I were hiding from the kids in the office, watching conference on our laptop.)
Ah yes, and we made muffins. Last October we made the orange cranberry muffins I think. This time we made mixed berry muffins (raspberry, blackberry and blueberry) and banana walnut muffins. I think next October we'll do apple cinnamon and lemon poppyseed. I used the exact same recipe and just tweak it to fit my needs.
Ok, Sunday morning we drove up to Midway and enjoyed conference with Derek's parents. None of the cousins came up so it was a little quieter than normal. We used felt shapes on felt pieces to create various images. This was Joshua's idea. I didn't suggest they make scripture story scenes but Joshua made a nativity scene and mentioned he didn't have enough white pieces to make a temple scene. But after he saw Abigail had made a train, he just started making trains also.
And they also colored on this sheet Joshua got from primary the week previous. These are Abigail's.
The kids were so well mannered up in Midway. It was wonderful. They just played with Grammy's toys during the Sunday afternoon session and were mostly quiet. There were only two very minor squabbles that were very brief. It was like a miracle. I loved conference. I learned so much. I am so excited to start studying the talks. I'm pretty sure I can already get them online, but I haven't had much time to do that yet. I will get there soon, though. There is so much to learn.

Above - the nativity scene - don't worry, they're in there.
Above - Abigail's nativity scene, the Lion as Joseph and Ariel and Mary.
Above - Samuel the lamanite - watch out, the babies are coming to get you, Samuel!
Above: Lukas recreated the city of Jerusalem after it's destruction. I asked him to go lie down next to his blocks so I could get a photo. This is what he did.
Above: Noahs' ark.
