Every year for Valentine's Day we make sugar cookies and decorate them. This year we invited some new friends over to help us decorate. One little boy, after 2 cookies, told his mom he was full and went to go play. Then the older boys decided they wanted to go play too, and Abigail of course followed. So Melanie and I decorated the cookies on our own - and Lukas ate the frosting. The next day my kids and I went and delivered the cookies. I really enjoy this tradition.
I had Joshua hand make the valentines for his class this year. There are only 16 kids in his class and 2 teachers so I figured it wouldn't take too long. It took about 3 days. Some of his valentines were a little scary looking, but at that point in the process I was just happy they were getting done at all.
We had the same breakfast as last year - heart eggs in toast. This year, however, they turned out much better.
I gave my kids conversation hearts as a little gift but I've decided to give up that tradition. Joshua already got way too much candy from school (in my mind, 2 pieces is plenty - a month) and we had just made all those cookies - plus the next day we were going to celebrate birthdays which means a lot of cake. As I see it, Valentine's week at our house is always going to be sugary but I'm going to try and tone it down a little next time. Note that we didn't actually ourselves eat many of the 104 cookies we made, I think we each had three. But still, having them in the house and smelling all the candy and the frosting, it kind of makes your teeth hurt. All that sugar. Ugh.
