General Conference

Do to lack of time, I'll just write a bit about what we did and then throw all the photos at the end of the post.

We made conference books: Each binder had a General Conference Activity Book, or Journal or whatever they are called where you could take notes, or draw pictures next to the photo of the General Authority speaking. We had "Conference Squares" which we just used to color but are actually originally used to play conference bingo.  We had coloring sheets from the PV Leitfaden, what is that in German, uh... the primary manual.  I was able to download and print them in German, so although the kids can't read anyway, I knew they were in the target language and I felt good about that.  We also put copies of the three songs we learned for conference, "Folg dem Propheten", "Ich freu mich auf dem Tempel", and "Steh fur das Recht" (Follow the Prophet, I love to see the Temple, and Do what is Right). We also picked out some scriptures stories, made copies of those, and put them in the books as well (although the King Benjamin story would have been appropriate, I didn't think about that until too late.)

These books will also be our Sunday Books to use during Sacrament Meeting to encourage the kids to stop fighting with each other, er, I mean, sit quietly and reverently in the pews.

We made cranberry orange muffins Saturday morning and took them to a few people in our ward.

We ate ice cream. We don't normally do that at home (any more :( ) so it was somewhat of a special celebration thing.

We made 1st Presidency and 12 Apostle cards. I did this over a year ago but this time we did it better because they are in color and each child has there own set. We could play memory with the cards before conference and try to learn the names to go with the faces.  I was impressed that Joshua can pick out the 1st Presidency all on his own, but that has more to do with Primary than any effort I put into it.  During conference, since we only listened to it on the radio, they could pull out the card of the person speaking, and know what the speaker looked like.

We also did the lesson from the Primary Manual on Prophets. It is so fun to get these lessons in German. That was a lot of fun too. It basically talked about how we used to have prophets, what their job was, and that was have a prophet today who does the same job. Then we discussed what the prophet has told us lately.  This made it a little more interesting for the kids when President Monson spoke during conference. Although they didn't pay complete attention, they did pay more attention to him and knew that he was saying important things.
The first 10 minutes of the Saturday morning session

The 11th minute - making Lego guns with Papa on Joshua's bed - Conference books all forgotten

Derek wanted to document our poverty - not even an antenna on our radio to listen to conference so we had to use an old hanger propped up just so

Sunday morning session

Can anyone make out what President Uchtdorf talked about? APB?

We also went to the temple and walked around (PS. Aren't you SO excited about the new Provo Temple!!! Joshua and I were in the Tabernacle the week before it burnt down.) Indirectly prompted by my friend Becca, our purpose for the temple was two-fold, one of those folds being to take a photo of each child by the temple and frame it for their very own in their bedroom. Joshua was so excited about his photo.  We also put some of the photos in their conference/church books

I think that's it. I'm just about out of time, anyway. No proofreading tonight.
