need suggestions

I'm anticipating a busy February and March and am therefore trying to get all my planning and prep done (most of it anyway) for those months.  February is easy, but I'm a little torn on March.  Please comment if you have any ideas and/or suggestions. Like, when does it actually feel like spring in Utah? I thought April or May? And when do farm animals start having babies (or doing something interesting to look at and learn about)?  Anyway, I would really really appreciate any advice. I've looked online, and I get the following ideas from other websites.

Spring (Spring officially starts in March)
Nutrition (March is national nutrition month)
Farm
Insects (we did this last year and i dont' think I want to do it again until next year)
Plants and Flowers/Gardening (is it too early?)
Birds
Music (it's music in our schools month also, apparently)

or I could do something that has nothing to do with March, like...
Alligators
Space
Jungle
different green things (our March color is green) like turtles, trees, etc.
etc.

Joshua picked out Sharks on his own, but I don't think it would work super well to ask him what he wants to learn about in 2 months - especially when he doesn't get the concept of "next week" yet. i don't know, maybe i could just ask him.

Anyway, please help me out.

  1. You could do spring by planting a seed inside that you would transplant later after the frost. Maybe start some tomato plants inside. You'll also have tomatoes earlier than most people who wait until after frost to plant outside :) The last snow is usually in April, although it can frost and/or snow into May (I know last year there was a snow in May when I was in Arkansas already enjoying 80 deg temps :) )

Or do something totally un-spring related. Oooh, you could do lizards and come over and visit our Bearded Dragon! ;) He's pretty awesome. And he eats crickets and worms. What kid wouldn't like that ;)

good luck! I want to say that in March we would talk about Dr. Seuss for National Read across America, read his books, do activities, etc. You could get felt and make Cat in the Hat hats. For spring there is the 'in like a lion out like a lamb' except that it does snow into april (i'm going to cry thinking about it). There is ground hogs day in Feb and it is Black History month and presidents day ooh and we would do dental health in february. I will keep thinking, but check out those sites and see if you like anything.

  3. I would do the topic that you enjoy the most...and the one that is the easiest for you to find resources for...considering you will still be fairly new to having 3 kiddos.

After that thought, I thought weather might be a good topic..Isn't is March that goes in like a lion and out like a lamb? Then if the weather happened to be nice you could start planting...or just go with the indoor planting idea. You could make little suns, clouds, rain drops...and put one up on your calendar- or a big graph- for each day's weather...

I also like the celebrating reading...but Dr. Suesses b-day could be a one day celebration if you wanted to incorporate it that way. (Mar. 2nd)

Hmmm...so many options. I might have to start following your lead by doing learning activities with our girls. Thanks for the great ideas!
